About MusicWide

MusicWide started in 2004 as a resource for independent musicians trying to get heard: how to book gigs, press records, and promote your band in the era of mailing lists and street teams. A lot has changed since then. The site you're reading is the modern continuation of that same idea: musicians helping musicians make good decisions without a marketing budget.

Today MusicWide focuses on gear. Specifically, the decisions that don't get real answers anywhere else: whether the $50 interface is actually worse than the $120 one, what works with what, and what's worth your money when your budget is a couple hundred dollars, not a couple thousand.

How we write

Every article answers one specific question completely. We tell you who should not buy something, because that's the part the retailer product pages leave out. When we haven't used a piece of gear ourselves, we say so and tell you where our information comes from.

How the site makes money

MusicWide runs ads and may earn commissions from some retailer links. That never changes what we recommend; the fastest way to kill a 20-year-old site's reputation would be shilling gear that wastes your money.
